Is your exam
knocking at the door? Exams look very horrifying and scary? Don’t worry. I have some practical tips for you on ‘how to prepare well for the exams’.
How to
prepare well for the exams?
Get your
exam timetable and mentally prepare yourself to face your exams. You may find
CIE exams timetable for May-June 2015 in the following link :
then go to Administrative Zone 5lKeep giving yourself mock exams periodically
so that it becomes a habit. This will help you to find out the area where you
are weak and for good Time management. Time management is an important part of
writing an exam. You may find CIE past papers and their answers from
www.xtremepapers.com,www.xtremepapers.com ,http://justpastpapers.com/, http://maxpapers.com/
Check out
where you have lost marks in the preparatory/mock exams, and why.
As the exam
date approaches, do not give up your extra-curricular activities completely -
just keep reducing them. Take breaks from studies and do activities that you
enjoy which will refresh your mind and body.
Reduce your
sleep hours slightly, but never drastically. Reducing sleep time in a 24 hour
cycle by about 20-25% should be the maximum. If you reduce your sleep further,
it will have an adverse effect.
Strictly
maintain food habits. Never postpone breakfast, lunch or dinner just because
you are deeply involved in studies. As far as possible avoid tea and coffee.
Don’t neglect your personal hygiene as well.
If you feel
the tension of the exam or exam stress as the exam dates approach, keep talking
to one or two trusted persons (parents/teachers/preferably elders) about how you
feel, what your symptoms are, what you fear is the worst that can happen, and
how you are coping with it. Writing a diary also helps some of us.
As the exam
date approaches, try to do revision rather than reading a few chapters in
detail. (The following revision websites may help you:www.s-cool.co.uk, www.tutor2u.net ,www.tutor2u.net, www.revisionworld.com
What do you
do on the day of your exam?
Don’t stay awake the previous night. Give yourself
sufficient sleep.
Don’t skip any of your usual activities such as bath,
breakfast etc.
Check all
your belongings, pens, ID card/ Hall Ticket, instrument box, spare pen, and
whatever else is required for the exam.
Try to reach
the venue of the exam well in advance.
On reaching
the exam site, run through a quick revision of the main topics or the Mind Map.
Don’t try to do detailed reading.
When you get
the question paper, read it carefully and slowly (if necessary, more than
once), and make out a time schedule. Attempt easy questions first, but make
sure that you will write the correct question number as it is on the question
paper.
See if your
handwriting is legible and clear. Try to add appropriate diagrams and equations
to get a high score.
Keep track
of the time. Finish writing a few minutes before the final bell, and run
through what you have written. You may find a crucial point missing here and
there, and you can add it.
Come out of
the examination hall, and do not discuss answers with your friends particularly
if you have other exams to take in the remaining days. Take a short break, get
some fresh air or entertainment and then get down to studying for the next
subject.
All the very
best for your exams!
