Susan
Evans告诉你,延期录取并不那么可怕,延期录取也不是意味着你就被学校否定了,相反的,你依然可以为自己努力。而且更为重要的是,you are
more than your result.
The college application season is
over, and now we await results with baited breath, both counselors and
students alike. You have written and re-written essays, filled out
forms, crafted activity resumes, and presented yourselves in the best
possible way, hoping that Columbia, UPENN, Carnegie Mellon, or Claremon
Mckenna will notice you...see you...and choose you. As CACS
counselors, we know how wonderful each and every one of you are. We see
your potential, and we can already picture you studying among the beat
students in the world, on the best college campuses in the United
States. We know something of the light that shines within you and have
imagined with you the contributions that you will undoubtedly make to
the world. As we await colleges' decision, it is important, however, to
grasp hold of one very significant element: you are more than your
result.
You are future businessmen and women, government
officials, television producers, engineers, and social activists. You
are writers, scientists, and historians. You are products of your
parents, your culture, and your schools. You are dancers, leaders, and
environmentalists. You are curious, passionate about learning, and
excited about your future. Throughout this application process, you have
learned how to think more carefully and articulate yourselves more
clearly. You have stretched your minds and dug deep within your thoughts
to retrieve ideas, emotions, and convictions you never new you had. You
are experts on Why-I-Want-To-Attend-Your-College essays and
What-My-Community-Means-To-Me essays. Your writing ability has been
tested; you are on way to mastering present-perfect tense and the proper
use of articles in the English language. Throughout this process of
flexing yourselves intellectually, ideologically, and grammatically, you
have grown more confident, more sure of who you are uniquely, and more
certain of your goals.
You have already accomplished so much.
Nevertheless, we all want to see that letter of acceptance flash
across your computer screen-the ultimate reward foe all your good
efforts over the last six months! Some of you have already been admitted
to college Early Decision or Early Action. to you,we say Bravo! For
those of you who have been deferred ED or EA, the reminder of what you
have already accomplished may pale in comparison to the disappointment
of not being admitted early. So here are some things you should remember
if you have been deferred from your favorite school:
——A deferral
is not a denial. Many students are admitted after being deferred during
the early season, although it is true that at some colleges and
universities, being admitted from the deferral list is extremely
difficult. Talk with your counselor to learn more about your chances at
each school.
——The college admissions process can be quite
arbitrary, particularly at highly competitive schools. Sometimes
colleges and universities make decisions that seem illogical and even
wrong. A classmate with lower SAT scores or fewer extra-curricular
activities than you may be admitted to your favorite part of this
experience is accepting that sometimes perfectly admissible college,
while you are deferred. The most difficult part of this experience is
accepting that sometimes perfectly students are not admitted, and for
reasons that as students and counselors, we cannot understand or
control.
——You can take action.Contact the office od admissions by
email(or email the AO in charge of your region if you know who they
are) to reiterate your interest in the school. Tell them plainly that
their school is your first choice-that if accepted, you will attend.
——If you have won a significant award or achieved anything else
significant since writing your application, colleges need to know about
this. Send an email to the college and ask that the new information be
included in your file. If you have a school counselor, ask that person
to contact the college on your behalf with your news.
——Send
additional letters of recommendation ONLY if a person of significance
who knows you well can shed additional perspective on a significant
accomplishment or contribution you have made to your school or community
that isn't found anywhere else in your college application.
——Talk with your counselor about anything else you could do to stay on
the radar screen of your favorite school without becoming an annoyance.
Whether you are fully aware of it or not, each of you have grown
tremendously through this strenuous application season, and as a result,
you are better prepared for a Western-style college education. You will
be admitted to a fine university, and all of you have fantastic futures
ahead of you.
You are already a success.
